Being a keyholder at Silverfish is a great option if you would like to have a stake in the well-being of our art collective. If you are interested in hosting events here, we have agreements with each other that allow performers and promoters to access those opportunities while maintaining mutual understanding with community members.

If you would like to use the space at Silverfish to make art, there are guidelines and boundaries you must adhere to that are observed by everyone. Using a shared calendar, we navigate the space that each of us takes up in our own practices to maximize the usefulness and inclusiveness of the studio.

Keyholders are subject to a fee of $50 a month to help us pay our rent. If there are barriers that prevent you from being able to afford this and you would like to contribute to the work we do together, please email us at silverfishcommunityartcenter@gmail.com or DM us on instagram @silverfish_maine and we can have a dialogue about it.

We are currently open to having new keyholders, and are interested in working with more people who make fabric art/textiles, as this is the most compatible work for our space. We are very interested in working with more community members who participate in mutual aid organizing/direct action. In the future we hope to continue adding to our growing zine library, and if you are interested in zine-making as an art form, we would love to receive your application.

Some art forms are not compatible with our space; oil painting, screen-printing (</3), or any solvent based craft.

Below you can find the documents we currently use to build new relationships with those interested in being a part of our collective.

The Keyholder Application is what you will use to send us some information about yourself, and start a conversation with us about becoming a keyholder. The Keyholder Agreement is a longer-form document that requires your signature in order to become an official part of Silverfish, and is meant to establish boundaries and guidelines that allow people to move autonomously in the space with respect for the community.
